Val Porteous

Art has always played an important role in Val Porteous’ life, but since her retirement she has developed her artistic skills to become an award-winning artist.

To develop her skills as an artist, Val undertook lessons in watercolour, oils and acrylic with highly-regarded tutors, as well as attended courses in Chinese Painting and Abstract Acrylics at the Council of Adult Education.

She also combines her love of travel with honing her art skills through participating in art trips throughout Australia, as well as overseas including China, Corfu Greece, Emilia/Romagna, Venice and La Spezia Italy, Siem Reap Cambodia, Malta and through the Canadian Rockies to Alaska.

As an artist Val has been active in many ways which include participation in the Hurstbridge's Joint Exhibition Bridge, as well as painting the mural at the Rosanna Post Office and decorating the bins at the Lower Plenty Rd Shops in Rosanna Victoria.

A long-time member of the Heidelberg Art Society, Val produced an illustrated chronicle depicting the role the Society played in carrying on the traditions of the Heidelberg School of Painters from 1964 through 2000.

Val is also a very active member of Sherbrooke Art Society.
